1912 Ford RoadsterThe Model T, was best known as the Tin Lizzie,and for many reasons, such as the rock-bottom price of $850, low fuel consumption,coupled to a top speed of 40 mph and large engine size was a very popular model.
In 1912 a cost cutting programme was becoming evident. The Model T Ford Touring car was now $690 and the runabout was $590. Accessory kits were sold to convert the open tourer Model T Ford to an enclosed model. The third seat was fitted as standard equipment and was known as "The Mother in law seat", or "Removable rumble seat"
Over 18 years Ford rapidly increased production and 15 million Model T's were produced making the the Model T being considered the Hallmark of American automobiles, with Ford selling overseas in Britain, Germany and France as part of its expansion programme. |

1930 Model A FordBy the end of 1930 over 4 million Ford Model A cars had been sold. The 1930 Model A Ford hadgenuine leather seats, more flare to the mudguards a deeper radiator shell and it appeared as a more solid vehicle. The fuel consumption was between 20 to 30 miles per gallon.The 4 door standard Phaeton sold for $440.
The next popular model to come off the Ford production line was the Ford Model A. It took three months to alter the production line from the Model T to produce the Model A.
The price of the car was $450 and over the next four years 4.5 million Ford Model A's were sold. Phaeton indicates a four door model. The Model A also featured a new option on the market and that was a station wagon.

1936 Ford RoadsterThis 1936 Ford Deluxe Roadster sold for $560. It was a two seater available with a rumble seat. The prominent horns mounted outside the vehicle were replaced in 1936 by being placed inside the fenders with two grills to allow the sound out.
"1936 Ford Roadster, Flathead" This was a twenty one stud, 85hp, V8, side-valve engine, with a three speed transmission. By May of 1936 Ford had produced 3 million V8 engines, with the three millionth truck being produced two weeks later. Ford started using V8s in 1932.
Chev did not produce a V8 until 1955. Ford had a choice of 21 models available in 1936 with prices ranging from $510 to $780. |
1940 FORD V8 PICKUP TRUCKThis 1940 Ford Pickup was mounted on Ford's commercial car chassis in an attempt to combine passenger car and truck front end styling. A common grill and head lights was utilized to give the car-like appearance.
The 1940 Ford V8 Pickup truck was installed with a 4-speed manual transmission. The hood sat much higher and was not interchangeable with the Ford passenger car models.
This 1940 Ford Pickup was mounted on Ford's commercial car chassis in an attempt to combine passenger car and truck front end styling. A common grill and head lights was utilized to give the car-like appearance. The front fender was also designed to bring out this theme. The cab which had been designed to fit in with the heavier trucks was also altered to fit in with the passenger car look. |
1946 FORD CONVERTIBLEWhen peace finally arrived after WW II civilian cars could be produced again. New cars were really nothing more than 1942 models with minor changes. These changes were orientated around creating faster production rather than newer styling. This car was priced at $1490
This 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe Convertible sold for $1490. With the end of WWII private vehicles could again resume production. The 1946 models of Ford and nearly every other make were in fact 1942 models with minor changes. |
1949 MERCURY COUPEIn 1946 to 1948 Mercury used the same body as Ford, but in 1949 the body was altered to the smaller Lincoln, the bigger Lincoln was the Cosmopolitan. The first postwar Mercury was introduced in the 1949 model year. The engine was a flathead V8 that produced slightly more power than the then also newly designed 1949 Ford. A new overdrive system was optional, activated by a handle under the dash. The styling of the Mercury Eight, when it was released in 1949, adopted the "ponton" appearance, and was successful in both ending the monotony of pre-war styling, and made Mercury different from its Ford cousin, which spelled sales success. Sales figures for both Ford and Mercury broke records in 1949. This model was used in a number of films, the best known one was "Rebel without a cause" starring James Dean. |
1954 2 DOOR SEDANThis Customline Club Coupe in Herman Nel's collection sold for $1830.
Ford extended it's model range to 14 models, but the biggest news of all was the overhead valve engine.
The overhead valve V8 with 130 horsepower replaced the old flathead side valve V8. |

957 Fairlane 500
The 1957 Fairlane models retained a single-headlight front end, but were unmistakable with their long flanks and tailfins.The 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 gained a new design and top trim. The new design which was typical of the 50's was longer, lower, and wider with a new 118 inch wheelbase, selling for $2435. The Fairlane 500 was two inches longer than the junior Custom/Custom 300 models and the new separate Station Wagon line.
The Fairlane had a bigger, weightier and sportier new body, with a lower-profile "cowbelly" frame, as well as a dropped rear floorpan and kicked-up back siderails plus 14" wheels, permitting a three inch reduction in overall height.All 1957 engines were carry-overs from 1956, although they were tuned for slightly more power. |
1957 Thunderbird e-series (2 x 4 barrel carbs) 1957 sales were 21,380, including three extra months of production because the 1958 models were late. With its V8 engine, the Thunderbird could reach speeds of 110-120 mph. |

1957 FORD COUNTRY SEDAN STATION WAGON1957 Ford Country Sedan (6 passenger) The six passenger Country Sedan with its distinctive side trim was not only Ford’s best selling station wagon, it was the only station wagon to sell in excess of 100 000. A total of 135 251 were sold and cost US $2551 and weighed 3590 lbs with the small V8 engine. |

1960 FORD F100 PICKUPThis Ford pickup was used on a farm in the Kalahari and Herman Nel bought it from the original owner in 1990 and is only the 2nd owner.

1960 FORD FALCONThe project which became the Falcon was started and sponsored by Ford General Manager Robert S. McNamara, before being offered the job of U.S. Defense Secretary. He commissioned a team to create what by American standards of the time would be a small car but elsewhere in the world considered a mid-size. McNamara’ faith in the new model was vindicated with record sales; over half a million sold in the first year and over a million sold by the end of the second year. |
1966 FORD ANGLIAThis Anglia belonged to a lady in the Cape and after her death in 1977 a friend of Herman's bought the car eventually selling the car to Herman in 2014.

1966 CORTINA 1200The Ford Cortina is a car which was built by Ford of Britain in models from 1962 to 1982, and was the United Kingdom's best-selling car of
the 1970s. The car was designed to be economical, cheap to run and easy and inexpensive to produce in Britain.

There was also the choice of a three speed manual gearbox, a four speed floor shift gearbox for high performance, as well as a three speed Cruise-O-Matic gearbox. Ford offered 15 paint colours, more than 30 upholstery choices. Other options werewhitewall tyres,stylish wheel covers, aircon, remote mirror, power front discs and a limted slip diff.

1977 FORD F100 PICKUP (With a 1980 grill)
This 6th generation of Ford F series were produced from 1972 to 1979. They were the last of the trucks using the In South Africa the F100 was built up until 1981. Herman Nel bought his in 1977 and used it as his farm vehicle until 1985 at which time he retired her on pension.

1981 MERCURY BLACK MAGIC1981 Mercury Capri “Black Magic” New to the Mercury Capri for 1981 was the “Black Magic” option, only 300 of this model were made. This was a “sold-as a series” package and came in black or white. This model had a “T” roof which had two panels that opened and could be removed and put inside the car to provide a semi convertible with a bubble back rear window. It had rally suspension with gold-finished TRX wheels, gold body trim and an outline cat on each fender. It also had a hood scoop |
